FSTC's resident lighting expert Richard Young and Guest Speaker Derry Berrigan of Light Think Studios will take you beyond the bulb as they talk lighting design for commercial food service.

Efficient lighting is an easy way to save energy in a commercial food service operation but it's important to make sure that the lighting fits the mood, d├ęcor and function. Using the latest technologies in solid state (LED) lighting, it is possible to illuminate the front of house in a way that is appealing and inviting to your customers while cutting energy costs by 75% or more.

Derry Berrigan is chief innovation officer at Light Think Studios and co-founder of Light Think University. An internationally recognized architectural LED lighting designer, Derry works to transform experiences in spaces such as restaurants, retail, hospitality, and education. Her work with Light Think University empowers students to become confident innovators who cares through multi-semester hands-on innovation training using the built environment as the canvas for innovation. Derry's main mission is to design strategies and innovation honoring the needs, aspirations, and goals of people.

Richard Young, Director of Education and Senior Engineer at Fisher-Nickel, Inc. (fishnick) currently focuses his efforts on technical outreach and education for the PG&E Food Service Technology Center (FSTC) in San Ramon, CA. Young has over 20 years of experience creating and presenting seminars on energy efficiency for commercial foodservice and delivers over 75 sessions a year.
